Hi, I'm Jyl.
By day, I've spent over twenty years in healthcare and now own a consulting firm, which means I've witnessed more real horror than most. By night, I write the fictional kind.
You may already know me from Memento Mori Ink Magazine, where I write my own little universe of columns. There's The (Mis)adventures of Jyl, where I chase down ghost stories, local legends, and haunted history I probably shouldn't be poking at alone. There's Letters to Jyl, where I answer your questions about everything from haunted houses to the far more terrifying group chat. And there's Horrorscopes, where I read the stars until they say something faintly threatening. If that's how we met, hi again. Go find me over there too.
This site, though, is home base. It's where you'll find my own fiction and books. Horror is still where I live, but lately I've been branching out, tossing a few different genres in a blender just to see what crawls out. It's also where you can sign up for my Chaos Curated newsletter over on Substack, find all the ways we can actually work together, whether you need words written, edited, formatted, or narrated, and find all of my upcoming appearances. Same brain behind the columns, just with fewer editors telling me to behave.
I'm a New Yorker, but I just happen to live in Tulsa now, a sentence that still surprises me most mornings, although I love this city. I collect creepy art. I have a dog and a cat, neither of whom appreciates the creepy art or my late night writing sprints. I have an unexplained affinity for pink dinosaurs. People call me the Queen of Chaos, and I've stopped arguing, mostly because they keep receipts.
If you like your horror with a pulse and a sense of humor, and you don't mind that the person telling the story is grinning a little too wide, you're in the right place.
Pull up a seat and embrace the chaos.
